Project 46: The Southern Indiana
Regional Climate Alliance

Project 46: The Southern Indiana Regional Climate Alliance “Project 46” is an innovative regional climate alliance started by the City of Bloomington, Town of Nashville, and City of Columbus with engagement and support from a variety of local and regional organizations. This unique, bipartisan, and cross-sector alliance seeks to leverage opportunities to reduce regional costs and increase economic opportunities while also addressing the pressing challenges posed by increasing extreme weather events. Project 46 does this by pooling resources and collaborating on impactful actions for a healthier, economically vibrant, and more resilient Southern Indiana.

Project 46 focuses on four key areas to drive progress in Southern Indiana:

  1. Emissions Monitoring: Track and report greenhouse gas emissions both individually by communities and collectively as a region.

  2. Shared Resources & Funding: Coordinate local investments and leverage available state and federal funding opportunities.

  3. Collaboration: Set goals, advance initiatives, highlight successes and challenges, and promote best practices through the engagement of government, nonprofit, and private sector leadership.

  4. Transparency: Produce an annual community report to demonstrate the activities and impact of these efforts and progress towards shared goals.

By focusing on these core areas, Project 46 works towards actions that are  community-driven, data-informed, and widely supported.
